Standing wave ratio
In radio engineering and telecommunications, standing wave ratio (SWR) is a measure of impedance matching of loads to the characteristic impedance of a transmission line or waveguide. Impedance mismatches result in standing waves along the transmission line, and SWR is defined as the ratio of the partial standing wave's amplitude at an antinode (maximum) to the amplitude at a node (minimum) along the line.

Das Stehwellenverhältnis (, SWR) ist ein Maß für die stehende Welle, die auf einem Wellenleiter durch Reflexion entsteht. Mit den Amplituden V und R der vor- und rücklaufenden Welle ist es als
definiert. Ohne Reflexion (R = 0) ist das SWR 1, bei vollständiger Reflexion (R = V) ist es unendlich. Bei einem hohen Stehwellenverhältnis wird ein hoher Anteil der eingespeisten Leistung am Verbraucher reflektiert und über den Wellenleiter zur Quelle zurück geleitet. Bei einem Stehwellenverhältnis nahe dem Wert 1 wird nahezu die gesamte eingespeiste Leistung in den Verbraucher übertragen. Dies ist der angestrebte Zustand, wenn die Leitung der Energieübertragung dient. Dieser Zustand wird erreicht, wenn der Eingangswiderstand des Verbrauchers und der Wellenwiderstand der Übertragungsleitung übereinstimmen.

VSWR son las siglas en inglés de Voltage Standing Wave Ratio, el cual se refiere específicamente al comportamiento del voltaje (mínimos y máximos) en un fenómeno de onda estacionaria entre una linea de transmisión y su carga en el extremo. Se denomina en español Relación de Onda Estacionaria ROE, y está implícito que se trata de la relación (razón geométrica) entre el voltaje máximo y el voltaje mínimo existente.

VSWR
When impedance mismatches exist, some of the energy transmitted through will be reflected back to the source. Different amounts of energy will be reflected back depending on the frequency of the energy. VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) is a unitless ratio ranging from 1 to infinity, expressing the amount of reflected energy. A value of one indicates that all of the energy will pass through, while any higher value indicates that a portion of the energy will be reflected.

Voltage Standing Wave Ratio. VSWR is an indication of the degree of mismatch between the characteristic impedance of a transmission line and its load. If the line were terminated in its characteristic impedance, all forward power is absorbed, and there are no reflections. As the load varies from the characteristic impedance, some power is reflected back toward the source. Applied to amplifier specifications, VSWR is an indication of the degree to which the input and output impedance of the amplifier approaches 50 ohms, as well as to how the load presented to the amplifiers varies from 50 ohms. A VSWR of 1:1 indicates a peRFect match.
